GC Executive Director applauds Liberia media
December 18, 2025-Monrovia, Liberia-The Executive Director of the Governance Commission (GC) Hon. Jallah C. Kesselly has applauded the Liberian media for its continuous service to the country.
But Mr. Kesselly has also cautioned the media about its fundamental responsibilities which he said is not only to hold government accountable for its shortcomings, but also to serve as a principled voice that champions truth and upholds higher standards across the society-both among private citizens and public servants alike.
Speaking at the 2025 National Broadcaster Media Award ceremony at the Monrovia City Hall on Wednesday, the GC Executive Director described the media as an important partner in development.
Mr. Kesselly used the occasion to highlight the mission of the Governance Commission, while admonishing that the broader progress of Liberia can not be fully realized without a strong, responsible, and engaged media sector. "For this reason, we place great expectations on you across all spheres of your work. You must continue to uphold the highest standards of ethics, accuracy, and excellence, just as we, in turn, must continue to treat the media with the respect and recognition it deserves", Mr. Kesselly who has a strong background from the media declared.
The National Broadcaster Media Award night saw several mainstream journalists and broadcast institutions awarded for their invaluable works for the year 2025.
The GC Executive Director further called on members of the media not to allow their institutions and efforts be used as a temporary tool and then abandoned once the work is done. According to him, the media must remain at the forefront of national development, consistently acknowledged and valued for its indispensable contribution to society.
"Liberia’s broadcast media plays a critical role in informing citizens, fostering national dialogue, and strengthening our democracy. It is in recognition of these vital contributions that the Liberia Broadcast Media Awards celebrate professionalism, integrity, and innovation in journalism", Mr. Kesselly indicated.
The Governance Commission Executive Director extended his personal felicitations to all the 2025 nominees and winners and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence while serving the public with honesty, courage, and unwavering dedication.
Mr. Kesselly underscored the importance of broadcasting excellence, noting that it is not just a destination but an ongoing journey, one that continually elevates media standards and contributes meaningfully to the development of the nation.
The GC Executive Director committed his institution to supporting policies that protect creators, strengthen accountability, and ensure that Liberia’s broadcast and music sectors grow together in integrity with the firm belief that modern publishing and rights frameworks are essential to building a fair, transparent, and sustainable creative industry.
