GC turns over Draft 2030 National Vision Documents to CENDRA

The Governance Commission on Wednesday May 6, 2015 submitted several draft documents to the Center for National Documents and Records Agency, CENDRA, for safe keeping. The program took place at the office in Sinkor. The documents presented are all related to the historical three day National Vision Conference held in Gbarnga, Bong County from December 12-15, 2012, and compiled by the Governance Commission, (GC) in collaboration with the now Ministry of Finance for Development Planning (MOFD).
It can be recalled that crafters of the National Vision Conference in 2012 promised that the National Conference would ensure the following:
      1. That the National Vision process would be led by Liberians only;
      2. That an exploratory approach will be used to ensure that every stage of the research would be brought to the Liberian people for validation;
      3. That Liberia would consult others with similar experience to avoid re-inventing the wheel and unnecessary errors; and
      4. That Dr. Alliance Sall of the African Futures Research Institute would be consulted to guide the process.
At the National Vision Conference, Liberians, in planning for a better future, came up with the following questions. Where do we come from as a country? Where are we today? Where do we want to go as a country? How do we get there?
Making the presentation today on behalf of GC, the Commission’s Vice Chair Elizabeth Mulbah explained that the Conference organizers brought together Liberian experts from all over the world to research the following themes to address issues that would help inform Liberia’s transformation process:
       a. Demography – the Liberian people
       b. Formation of a national identity
       c. Land, Environment, and Natural Resources
       d. Civic and Cultural Contents and National Curriculum
       e. Social Cleavages and access to opportunity
       f. The political economy of Liberia
According to Commissioner Mulbah, the findings of these researches were crunched into the retrospective analyses that informed 4 possible futures after they were validated by Liberians in 56 administrative districts in the 15 counties of Liberia and the Liberian diaspora. The Vision Conference adopted a National Vision Statement –“One people, one nation, united for peace and sustainable development.
Items presented to CENDRA by GC include:
A 160 page draft report of the Conference, a 25 page draft summary report, a 5 page draft Vision Statement also known as the Gbarnga Declaration with the Vision Statement, a brown envelope containing 2 disks of draft documents and photos, a synthesize report (retrospective analysis/National Vision 2030, county district and diaspora consultations reports, Conference souvenirs, a book shelf, among others.
Receiving the items, CENDRA’s Director General Madam Bloh Sayeh thanked the Governance Commission for acknowledging the importance of CENDRA. She said the turning over ceremony of the National Vision 2030 to CENDRA symbolizes to the rest of the nation the importance of keeping and pressing all of Liberia’s national documents in the National Archives. She noted that the Vision 2030 documents add to the Archive huge collection of other important national documents such as Liberia’s original Constitution, Liberia’s original declaration of our independence, records of Presidents Tubman, Tolbert, and Doe Administrations, as well as all Interim administrations of Liberia during the 1990s.
Other documents at the Archive Center span a variety of legal instruments such as land deeds, marriage certificates, and agreements, among others. The Agency has digitalized 95% of national records within their possession. Madam Sayeh assured of the safety of the National Vision 2030 documents at CENDRA.
The Ceremony ended with a signing Ceremony signifying both GC and CENDRA’s partnership and collaboration. Commissioner Elizabeth Mulbah and Communication Director Janet Johnson signed on behalf of GC, while Executive Director Bloh Sayeh and Deputy Director General Martin Kollah signed on behalf of CENDRA.
