Monrovia, Liberia
June 14, 2024-GC gets new Executive Director as Policy Analyst-1 Gebeh Doteh is named as Acting ED
The Acting Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the Governance Commission (GC), Prof. Alaric Tokpa has named Miss Gebeh M. Doteh as Acting Executive Director (ED) barely a week after the dismissal of Dr. Matthias Korpu through a unanimous vote of no confidence decision by the Board of Commissioners.
The announcement was made at an emergency meeting on Thursday where staff were gathered in the GC’s conference room.
Prof. Tokpa called on the staff of the Governance Commission to accord Miss Doteh all respects and support in the best interest of the institution as the search for the new ED gets underway.
He said, "As I introduce Policy Analyst-1 Gebeh Doteh, I am filled with confidence that GC is in a capable hands. Her academic achievements and practical experience make her the perfect leader to guide us forward." Prof. Tokpah continued.
Speaking shortly to the Communication Director after her preferment, Miss Doteh said she was overwhelmed by the influx of congratulatory messages coming from her workmates, friends and colleagues. "I am deeply honored to step into this role and to work alongside all of you. Together, we will continue to uphold GC's mission and drive forward with it vision for the future." Gebeh added.
Miss Doteh also used the occasion to send out a special thanks and appreciations message to members of the Board of Commissioners for the confidence reposed in her, and for her promotion to act as the new ED for the commission.
Miss Doteh promised to work diligently in her role as secretary to the board and as a good administrator. “My vision for GC is one of continued innovation and impact, ensuring that our initiatives reach those who need them most."
Miss Doteh came to the Governance Commission as a management trainee under National Decentralization, a UNDP/GOL Program.
She graduated from the University of Liberia and rose through the rank of Research Officer and later to Policy Analyst-1. She holds a Master Degree in Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Policy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Meanwhile, Prof. Alaric Tokpa says national and international partners have started reposing confidence in the commission. He said the Governance Commission has suffered low donor support over the past years due to unspecified reasons.
Speaking during the emergency meeting with staff in the conference room of the commission, Prof. Tokpa disclosed that for the past few days, he met with officials from the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA) and representatives from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and will also be meeting with the European Union in the coming days.
We had fruitful discussions. Those partners want to do business with the Governance Commission once again, Prof. Tokpa intoned.”
He continued, when I served the commission as a consultant several years ago, one of its major donors was the UNDP. What ceased the partnership?, the acting chairperson asked. We want to reestablish those partnerships to see donors complementing the effort of government in funding programs at the Commission, Chairman, Tokpa emphasized.
