( Monrovia, March 23, 2023) Recently, a high-power delegation from the African Development Bank (AfDB) headed by its Executive Director, Refus Darkortey paid a courtesy visit to the Governance Commission of Liberia to discuss the progress of the governance program that the AfDB had supported in the country. The meeting provided an opportunity for the AfDB officials to assess the impact of programs on governance from the perspective of policy reforms.

During the visit, the AfDB officials met with the Chairperson Hon. Garrison Yealue, Commissioners and senior staff to review the progress of the program. The officials commended the Commission for its efforts in implementing program and acknowledged the positive impact it has had on governance in the country. They also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the AfDB and the Commission to ensure the sustainability of programs and its long-term impact.

One of the key achievements of the governance program highlighted during the meeting was the  development of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials. The Code of Conduct sets standards for ethical behavior and outlines the consequences of violating those standards. The AfDB officials praised this initiative and emphasized the importance of maintaining high ethical standards among public officials as a critical aspect of good governance.

The Governance Commission also discussed its efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the country's public sector. The Commission has established mechanisms for monitoring government expenditure, and ensuring that public officials are held accountable for their actions. These efforts have helped to reduce corruption and improve the efficiency of public services.

The visit was an opportunity for the AfDB officials to discuss the bank's own efforts to promote good governance in Africa. The AfDB has established a number of programs aimed at improving governance and reducing corruption in the continent. These programs include support for anti-corruption measures, capacity building for public institutions, and initiatives to promote transparency and accountability in the public sector.
